June 13, Community Update

June 13, 2020, – The Gainesville Community Playhouse has currently suspended productions because of the Covid-19 situation in our state.  These past few months, we have focused on the safety, and well-being of our staff, volunteers, actors, crew and production team. It is now time to reflect on our community, and our message within our mission statement.

It is the mission of the GCP to provide an accessible live theater experience for the residents of Gainesville and surrounding areas. Included in this mission is the desire to afford anyone interested in volunteering for GCP activities the opportunity to do so.

It is the vision of the GCP to provide high quality live theater and enriching experiences within an environment which is welcoming, fulfilling and celebrates the diversity of our community.

Recent tragedies have led to a widespread outpouring of grief and demonstrations across the country and world. The death of George Floyd is the latest in a series of events that highlight the need for change on how we address diversity as one. The Gainesville Community Playhouse stands with the black community and all people of color in the fight against injustice and inequality.

We acknowledge that many people are struggling in our community because of health, economic and racial issues beyond their control.  Anyone who is involved with or attends theater on a regular basis knows that the purpose of theater beyond entertainment is to open people’s minds and present ideas and characters that will challenge us to look outside our comfort zone.  We here, at the Gainesville Community Playhouse  wish to always make sure that our theater represents the entire community of Gainesville; all ages, colors, orientations, genders, lifestyles.  We wish our theater to be a place of SAFETY, HEALING and SUPPORT for all people who engage with us. We look forward in the not too distant future to again be able to open our doors and have you join us here.

We are stepping up our efforts to protect the health and safety of everyone.  This includes actions such as:
